Dear Parents and Students,
This is an especially sad day for our school community. As we process the news of the discovery of the remains of 215 children found near Kamloops, B.C. on the territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation our staff and students are feeling many things: confusion, grief, sadness, and helplessness about what we can do as a community to do our part for reconciliation and justice. Today our religious education coordinator, Maria Gray, read information and reflections for the school to start our morning prayer time. During the course of this week teachers will have special prayers to try to help students think and pray with intention about this tragic discovery and the wider history and consequences of the residential school system. On Tuesday, we will be honouring the families and communities affected by residential schools with an Orange Shirt Day. As always, you know your children best and if you have concerns or questions about what our plans are, please let us know.
Prayer for Strength and Wisdom
God, there are things happening around me right now that I do not understand. Some of these thinks make me feel weak, helpless, and afraid.
Even in the midst of this, I know that you are the Lord.
I know that the situation is in Your hand, and I trust You.
I beseech you for strength and for wisdom that I would be able to endure his situation and be able to handle it in a way that would bring glory to Your name. Amen
